How much do plant operators make?
Was talking to a guy today and he told me that they were hiring at his plant. (I think it was an Exxon plant, not sure) I know that operators make bank, but I was wondering if anyone has any specific numbers? Not looking to give up the current gig, but you never know. 4 tens sound pretty fricken nice.....

Yeah, I always heard that. He said it's not so bad if you have a stable work history and can pass a drug test. He came out and told me about it. It was just kinda weird. I really haven't considered a job change (got 12 years in where I'm at).

I used to drop cable in Pasadena plants and noticed pretty much the same thing. I spoke with one or two of the operators and they told me that when things heat up or it's time to do the nitty gritty, you better know your stuff to the hilt and that's what keeps you on board.

Usually starting pay is $20-25/ hr. and top out $29-$35/hr.
Depending on the overtime, the lowest ive ever seen an operator make is $65k (that was 6 yrs ago) and the highest was this year, i believe he made just over $130k.
I've been an operator for 7 yrs and haven't made below 75k yet. We do read some magazines and talk **** to contractors (^^ lol), but we get paid for what we know how to do, not for what we do on a daily basis.

Shift work sucks. I still haven't gotten used to it. Stay away from 4 on 4 off! The "dupont schedule" is what you want. 1 week off every month and you still get 1/2 of your weekends
