Mobil 1 5w30 has been used in my car since brand new, now the car has 24k miles on it, and no problems at all, I drive it very hard all the time and it doent burn a drop!!! I'm very happy with it, friend of mine is using it in his c5 z06 and no problem either!!! Everybody likes different things!!! I like Amsoil but its just too expensive for my blood!!!

I'd suggest Mobil 1 5w30 Truck and SUV or 0w30 or 0w40. Amsoil is great but a bit harder to find.

Actually.. Used Oil Analysis Tests have shown that Mobil 1 5w30 has shown MUCH HIGHER engine wear than other oils.. and Mobil 1 is NOT a full synthetic. It's more like a 5w20 it's so thin at operating temperature, which is a reason it is burned more.

Go read here a little bit:

There are MUCH better options out there for the money. The popular one on the market right now is Penzoil Platinum 5w30. It has shown very favorable results with used oil tests, not marketing.

If your Dad's Z06 is consuming 2 qts/1500mi then I'd say he has a mechanical problem somewhere, either the oil is leaking out of the crankcase or being consumed by getting past the valve seals or piston rings (loss of cyl hone?).

Oil consumption in LSX engines is pretty common with the lighter grade engine oils ie: SAE 0W-XX and SAE 5W-XX due in part to the PCV system design. One way to help minimize this effect is to use SAE 10W-30 if your operating climate allows you to run that viscosity grade. SAE 10W-30 has a heavier base oil viscosity which directionally reduces oil volatility and would also reduce the amount of oil lost by ingestion through the PCV system.

i've ran RP. m1 5w30,0w40,5w40 and recently amsoil 5w30. i liked them all but one complaint was that the amsoil is suppose to be good for 25k or 1 year, it was black in 4k miles and i change my oil all the time and always run synthetic

Mobil 1 5w30 is the worst choice of the Mobil line for LS1 cars. If you want to run Mobil 1, use 5w40 or 0w40.

Royal Purple is great, but very high in price. But to me is worth it for the performance. I also use it for everything and have never had any issues and would highly recommend it to anyone. I did use Mobil One before I did the switch to Royal Purple and never had any complaints about the performance or had any problems burning oil. I have a 02 WS6.

I ran 5w30 M1 for the first 190,000 miles of my car's life. It started grinding the roller off of one of the lifters, and leaking throught the rear main seal at about 170,000. I'll be running only German Castrol from here on out.

So you are saying that it is mobil1s fault that it is getting through the rear main? That's REDICULOUS

And what evidence do you have that the oil is to blame fo r the roller lifter, because tons of people use it religeously and have never had that problem. you can't just blame a problem a specific cause without any backing to that reasoning.

I use Royal Purple RP41, or as it's called now, XPR 10w40.

Engine feels like it has butter in it it's so smooth!

People, smoothness and your "car running better" doesn't mean that the oil you've chosen is protecting your engine better! Read the oil analysis tests, and make your choice from there. Don't go off commercials or your gut feeling about a motor oil. Look at the facts, not opinions...
