Looks great!!! I'm doing a '66 convertible - a bit further off than you - did you have to do any trans tunnel-mods for the LS2/4L80e?

Looks great! I wish I could clean the frame on my Monte. I will get to it though.

i havent lowered the body down onto the chasis since ive placed the motor and trans onto the chasis.i have alittle room to play ( or so i think ) no holes drilled for the frame mounts yet or crossmember fabrication .from reading other threads theres a good chance for some tunnel modification

My guess is you will at the very least have to "massage" the tunnel with a hammer. It appears my 700r4/LS1 will be about as tight a fit as it gets.

Hammers work but for about $70 on sale I bought a 4-ton Porta-Power hydraulic assembly from Harbor Freight that gently shoved my Mercedes tunnel wider without beating on it. The Benz has VERY thick sheet metal under there and it made the tunnel about 3" wider at the front, tapering toward the back.

Thats a pretty trick idea I, my bodyshop experience made me consider that as an option. I plan on a T-56 swap in the future so I feel like if I have to modify the tunnel I might as well section it so I can do it once and not worry about it.

what ecm/wiring harness are you using? I'm using the same combo in another app but I've had problems getting anyone to get the 4l80E to work with the E40 ECM from a gto. Any insite would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Im planning on using speartech for my ecm & harness.ive spoke with John a couple of times on the phone and via this site and he answered many questions i had. Im told that if you have an 06 & up engine ( with a 58 x reluctor wheel ) older ecm's are not compatible with the newer engines. speartech told me that they do not have an ecm & harness for a new ls2 with a 4l80e yet ..but will.at this point im thinking ill go with the speartech package for the engine and use a seperate transmission controler ( like a tci ).i still am researching the whole tranny thing but i think with the trans controller you can change shift points and other stuff.my project is moving slow but moving ill post any progress on the harness/ecm when i get there.

john, I'm in the same boat with the LS2 and 4L80E. I just hate buying a tranny contoller for $600-$800. I think I'm going to use a 00 ecm and converting my LS2 harness to the older ecm. I'm going to hold off on this until I'm much further along. Hopefully, by then someone else will figure out an easier way.

I hope I dont get flamed for saying this, but if I had your 60 I would put a big block in it. A heavy car like that needs a lot of cubes. I love those 60s! JB

nah its cool, thats what i origionally planned to do was restore it to stock appearance and drop in a 572 or something. but then i see cars like this chevelle and this video of a nova with a 5.3l and a huge turbo. it really was one of the coolest things ive ever seen... sorry to hijack your thread, im done now!

turbo nova

lowered the body finally today. the trans fit . it seems i have a little room foward and back ( i pushed it as far back as possible) .ill probably have to do some mods for the trans cooling lines but other than that it seems good. switched the engine mounts back to the correct mounting position and the frame mounts will grab the crossmember .trans crossmember way off,i think ill bolt up a piece of 1 1/4 " angle steel to move the whole thing back and drill one whole in the perch for the trans mount.i just have to check the steering to oil pan clearance before i bolt it up .will try to get some pics soon. john
