Default Where is the orifice tube?

Exactly where is the orifice tube on a 93 LT1 A/C system and how do I take it out? And after I replace it do I also have to replace the drier or anything else? Thanks. I know I'll have to recharge it after.

I'm not sure where it is, but if you want your a/c as cold as possible, replace the drier while you are in there, it makes a big difference.

Well there's all kinds of those tubes on the a/c. You got the two coming out of the evaporator core, the big curved line on the back of the compressor.......**** I don't even remember where they all go. Why would this need replacing? Unless you got a cut or hole in the line I don't see any reason to replace this orfice tube. Like 97MysticZ said, replace your drier if you want cold air. Perhaps the system just needs a recharge. And if it's not holding freon, then it goes back to the first thing I said------>a hole is causing a leak.

Oh, well then that crap is outta my league. My dad can do that stuff but I'm stupid with it. Sounds like a job for a licensed mechanic anyhow!

just depends on what type of vehicle. LT1s use the expansion valve, where as like an LS1, or Newer GM truck uses orifice tubes. just in difference in design i guess. the orifice tube is similar to a fuel pump screen (filter)

this is what it looks like... http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...pe=393&ptset=A

don't get me to lying about what they do, and the differences between the 2, etc, etc....i just sold them for 3 yrs at advance auto parts, lol, and never bothered to find out what they do. just knew it was best to change them along with the drier/evaporator when u do a new compressor.

Thanks so I guess theres no way that can get clogged is there? I got one more problem when i turn the a/c on, only the drivers side fan comes on. it runs on high and the other does nothing. Arent they both supposed to come on high when you turn on the a/c? I got the pass. fan to come on after tinkering with the relay. Sometimes they will both come on and i shut the car off and crank it back up and only the drivers side will be on so whats the deal?

not sure about the fans and what they are supposed to do with AC on, i just know the compressor clutch should kick in, and yes i think that expansion valve can get clogged....if not im pretty sure replacing the drier should help.

both fans should be on low untill the head pressure reaches 248 PSI then both fans will come on high. Fan operation is very important to AC health.

not to hijack this thread, but in that case, will running the AC in the staging lanes help to cool down the motor??

actually harlan, the 93 and first half of 94 year didnt' operate that way. the fans in those cars are both single speed. one comes on for low and then both are turned on for high. not until the second half of 94 did they start where both come on low and then both go to high.

No. for 2 reasons. 1: if you run your AC at the track you will get kicked out. 2: The condensor is a heat expeller. Where does the heat go? right across the radiator. It will keep the motor the same heat or very slightly cooler. Not enought to make it worth it.

Rage. thats not how 1 93 and 2 94's that I have worked on has run...

don't argue with me boy, that's how it is. my 94 was in the last half of that year produced, i already checked.

any 93 or first half produced 94 is going to be just like i said unless it was changed by an individual.
