Default 408 Single turbo build. Need Input

LS2 408 Forged. Wanting to run single turbo ( Turbonetics 76mm ) T4. Looking to get about 700RWHP with this set up. Is this enough turbo? also what size BOV and piping would be best. There is no kit to buy since this is going into my infiniti G35. All custom fab. About to order parts and want to make sure they are correct. One more thing what is a good boost controller. Thanks

Depends a little if your doing front- or rearmount? If frontmount, I think you will be choking it with T4 hotside. 408 is quite big anyway and as couple of engine builders has said many times that with too small hotside you will get too much torq with too small rpms and it will eventually shorten engine life.

That will get you to the goal want. If this is going to be a street car then T4 will be fine. As far as a boost controller i would recommend the Eboost2. Best controller for the street IMO. JGS is my preference on BOV. There 60mm is an awesome piece. 2.5" hotside will get you by. Good luck man. Will be super fun!!!

Yes front mount turbo. It's gonna be a street car some track use. I'll be happy with 700-800 rwhp. I have a import it can't handle to much more than that. Car makes right at 500 rwhp if I changed the cam a lot of cylinder pressure. Cam will be changed for turbo. Also comp is 10.5. I haven't seen to many single turbo builds with 404/406/408 engines. Does this setup sound like I will still need a t5? Thanks

I have a 402 i had built and i was going to run a t76. After talking with the tuner he said it was to small. He told me to call forced inductions. After talking to them they agreed and i went with a s400-78 t6 housing. I dont think a there is such thing as a t5 at least ive never seen one or heard of anyone owning one. My s400 cost the same as my t76 so it comes down to can you fit it. Dont know what car your running it in but ive seen 4th gen guys put it in the air box location. Hope this helps.

BTW the tuner and forced inductions said the engine would run the turbo out of air on the top end.

Good luck

That sounds great. I had a little bit od downfall today. I snapped btoh rear cv alxes at the track. Launched at 2500 with street tires and it hooked pretty good and they left me hanging. Def will look into that turbo. What numbers were you putting down at what boost?

T76 is too small.

Is keeping a/c absolutely a must?

Do you mind standing the radiator up?

If you don't mind doing those two things, you can get more creative with the size turbo you can run.

A 76mm should be fine with the proper turbine wheel. PTE offers a 7685. This is the smallest single 76mm turbo I would go with for a 408.

I am limited to room due to the engine being in my G35 Coupe. I just order a smaller radiator so maybe I can have more room on one side, if not I am fine with cutting a hole in the hood. I'm not looking to going crazy on the number, 700 will be just right. Car will have AC put back in it. way to hot in LA. Prob going with a S400 T6 80mm Turbo. Should do what I want to do. I've read good things about this turbo with guys with the same setup.

We build many S400's for alot of companies. The 80mm unit is a great unit, spools well and will make the power you are looking for.

Have you seen the price on that thing though? Ouch.

We need to know how much room you have.

As someone else said have you seen the price on that turbo? Almost 4k, there are so many better turbo's out there, price wise, and that would better match what he wants than that one. I also don't think I have seen anyone run that turbo in real life, aside from Jessica Barton. Now that I say that there might be a guy I know at the local track that uses one, but still much better options.

I would look into a S400 line as Jose(Dr. Turbo) suggested. The S480 and S482 even the S488 are perfect for what you want.

I'd think that the T4 versions of the S480 and S482 could maybe be used to keep a/c. Might need to get creative, but doing a turbo set-up requires lot's of that.

How did this build go? I have a Comp Ct5x 80/87 with a 1.25 A/R t4 flange going into my GTO front mount with an iron 408, 9.5:1, LSA heads. I believe I have the largest turbine housing available with a t4 flange. Ill run it, and if the backpressure is too much, I can always swap the turbine housing for t6 and keep my same compressor.

S480 on a 408 will work quite well and it will spool nicely as well. Personally, I wold not put a 76mm turbo on that and I would run a T6 hot side, the 96mm/1.32 if you can fit it.

If a 76 is too small why couldn't he go to a mid frame turbo. I my self have been thinking about a 408 with a Pt88 in the future. That should be able to push a fbody into single digits easy correct?

I have a 47-88 t-4 on my 402 and I made 1143 through a 6 speed. Power band never fell off .

So the setup does work and you can get away with the T4 then.
How much boost are you running, would you say the setup is maxed out?
