Ouch, I'd really hate to have you dump that kind of cash into a nice used set. I think a couple other people chimed in saying there car was in storage for a bit anyway. If they could send them along, that would save you some money. Anybody able to part with their set for a few weeks and send them up?

I'm going to be parking my 01 formula soon so I can pull the engine and rebuild it. When I do that, I'll gladly take my lenses out and send them to you if you can pull this off.

I would buy these. Owning a 79 I love the throwback. Don't know that I would run them 100% of the time but would love the ability to pick on choose.
I know somebody mentioned they were going to try and make them, we're they successful?

This fella is legit. I checked his site and sent him an e-mail. Very courteous and reponded back within a couple of hours. You T/A or Firebird guys need to get your **** together and get this rolling. I think he wants at least 10 or so people to spot up so he get get it rolling. I was more in line with a frosted clear look.

The tails I do would be exact reproductions of the OEM's that were sent to me. If I were to get into modding them for a different look, then it would get pretty expensive. I'll let you guys decide amongst yourselves which style you think would be best to send in. As far as what is sent,... the condition doesn't have to be pristine by any means. There can be minor surface imperfection, light scratches or even very minor chips so long as there are no cracks or breaks. I wet sand and buff every oem lens to a mirror finish before I make molds, so that will take care of any light to medium imperfections.
MisterFister13, that would be great if you could send them in. So long as the tails actually seperate from the housings, they will come back to you in better condition then I recieved them in ( with a fresh wetsand and buff ). I could also just swap your for a set of the reproduction clear, or smoke ( or whatver ) tails as well if you want. If they have to be cut off the housings, I'll do it as cleanly as possible. I'll be visiting my folks in PA the weekend of May 19. If you happen to be parking it before then, you could ship the tails there and I'll pick them up then. If it is later though, its not an issue.

Not to scare you, but most one off's are crazy expensive... especially when it comes to these tails. They are pretty big which means alot of expensive materials to make molds.

Probably wasting my breath, but please don't anyone destroy a good set of LT1 or honeycomb tails to do this when there are some like myself who can send a set of delaminated ones or ones with cracked lenses to use for the casing.
It took me months to find a driver's LT1 taillamp that was nice and that I could afford.

We've got a set of honeycomb tails on the way. I should have them in a couple weeks and we'll get this project fully evaluated and moving forward.
1961ba427 - I can certainly understand your point of view. Please don't worry though, I've been doing this along time. I won't be destroying any tails. I'll only be adding more GOOD tails to the community.

i;m sure you already know this with your experience, but i separated the lenses from the housings before on firebird tails and when i kept them in the oven for too long of a time (not too high of heat) the lenses deformed. short time and high heat is what let the glue separate.

It's been well known that LT tail lens are able to be removed from the housing and the LS honeycomb style isn't. However, it is possible to do on the newer ones, just not nearly as easy. Most don't even know it has been done. I did see someone post the link to it, but I will post it again because it will be very useful to you

This way you can just make the lens and keep costs lower than making the whole assembly.
