Casting #862 99-00 4.8-5.3l trucks. Your engine has different heads than what came on the engine from the factory.

I thought that 5.3 heads flow just as well as 241s but have a smaller chamber meaning higher compression.

So someone upgraded the heads on the car before you bought it. I for one would be happy that I got upgraded heads if they are indeed the 5.3s.

Possibly ported 5.3 heads

Do you have an aluminum or iron block...also possible someone swapped the ls1 for a 4.8/5.3 block or 6.0 block

but whats the deal with the 864 head? and from what ive looked up the 5.3 head flows very very close to the ls1 heads even with the smaller valves.

but as stated early id see if your block is iron or if you can get to any identifying numbers it may have had the motor pop in it and the previous owner dropped a 5.3 off in it

If he was planning on running a turbo, that might be a good thing...

You aren't going to like this...but the number on my LS1/6 is on the back of the driver's side of the head surface. There may be other indicators though.

def not an "ls1" then, thats for sure. On the front of the block close to the sides and behind the waterpump it will say what size the block is. Might read 4.8/5.3 or 6.0 depending on what you have. Could be an lq4 or lq9 6.0liter truck block but to put 5.3heads on there would be silly unless they are super ported. Only way to tell if ported is if you pull the intake manifold off and see if any work has been done to the ports. Also pull valve covers and see if they have upgraded springs or not. Most likely is a lm7 5.3 truck block but that may not be a bad thing as it could have been bored out from 327cu to an ls1 size of 346. No way to check this unless you pull the heads. Ls6 intake manifold comes on 01-02 fbodies so that is normal. Post up when you figure out more info on what you have.

I circled the block size location on the engine below so you can see where to look.

Mine has a 6.0 Iron block 408 and I also dont know much about whats in it. The 6.0 on my block was stamped on the back of the block. I saw it when I pulled the trans.
