Question Push Rods

I am changing my push rods along with the lifters. I was told to get LS7 lifters with 7.4 push rods. Who makes a good push rod? This is my daily driver, I don't race, never at the track don't want to spend a million dollars just want a little better than average. Thank You to All for your help so far.

Comp cam and Trick Flow Specialites are popular pushrods and not partcularly expensive. Most of the sponsors here sell them.

I'm putting in a "04" Z06 cam with 799 Heads and LS6 intake. I am budget restricted and collecting the parts. I was told to get 7.4 push rods.

It is a 1998 Z28 LS1.

Trend, they make them for Comp and a lot of other vendors.

Also, even though you were told to get 7.400", they still may not be correct. You may want to measure to avoid buying twice.

The installer should measure for the required push rod length based on what provides the proper pre-load for the installed valve train. Predicting the right push rod a head of time can be problematic unless someone has the exact hardware combination that you do for comparison - even then results can be imperfect.

This is the info that i got. It's a Stock Z06 cam, a stock cam and 799 heads that are the same as the 243 i am told, which would be a stock chevy head for the cam correct? Then the stock replacement lifter is the LS7 lifter according to chevy again the stock lifter for both the head and the cam right? This is the package that the Corvette came with in "04" right? I would go to my local dealer and ask the question but........as we all know most all of the mechanics have been replaced by Parts Changers. That is why i called Tick. I'm hoping that someone else would have run this package and let me know if i am getting the right stuff. being that i cannot measure this myself. Does my logic make sense?

Your logic is fine as long as all the details are known. Have the heads been milled (perhaps by a previous owner)? Which head gasket will be used? The LS7 lifters are the stock replacement level but are not identical to the superceded part. That difference, in and of itself may not trigger the need in a different push rod length but when could coupled with other changes. This is why the standard answer is to "measure." You can buy your "best" guess length push rods from a supplier that will let you return them if they are not the right ones.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yes, The heads are New so I will pick up the 7.4 then. It seems Trick are the cheaper of the two. Thanx again.

I have Manton pushrods and really like them. Be aware however, when talking push rod sizes with the Manton folks - they speak only in actual measure lengths which are not the same thing as "guage" lengths used by Comp, Trend and others. A Comp Cam 7.40" is actually 7.57" overall length if I recall correctly.

Actually, 7.417". The difference between guage and overall length is approximately 0.017"

Thanks again - I seem to misremember the actual difference and you seem to correct my misinformation everytime.

OK so I am looking at Trick Flow #tfs-21407400 and GM says the push rods are 8mm, these trick flow are 5/16" a difference of about .002 is this enough to cause a problem with the tight tolerences of todays motors?

5/16" is the go-to pushrod size for LS1s, you'll be fine with that diameter.
