What is the proper way to adjust or torque down stock rocker arms on an all stock LS6 engine?
Ive just finished replacing my old valve springs with new stock springs and since there is no indicator on the crank pully, im unable to find TDC without any special tools or skills!

Ive read a couple ‘How to’ articles and none has instructed to find TDC when tightening rocker arms. Im not sure about this but since im new to LS engines I just wanted to confirm.

I was told that i can torque down all the rockers to 22ft-lbs wherever the crank is at and then rotate the crank pulley like 180 degrees and torque down all the rockers once again!!!

please help.

I just did 22 ft lbs on my stock ls1 and started it up and it was chattering like crazy, maybe 22 ft lbs then a quarter turn? what have u guys had success with?

I think the best way to do it is have one rocker with lift on it and tighten down the other to 22 ft lbs. Rotate the engine over till the one you adjusted has lift on it and tighten the other one down. I have seen the way listed above in the manual but it's too complicated for me and I can't keep track. LOL. I use a remote starter which makes it easier.

Thanx for the post Paul 75 L82, that sure helped some. My only problem at this point is that I cant find TDC without the timing cover removed.
guess ill have to go with the ‘screwdriver in the sparkplug hole method’ !

i am surprised no one mentioned the intake closing exhaust opening method. Basically when you have the valve covers off look for when the intake starts to close after peak lift then adjust the the exhaust rocker to 22ft lbs. then when the exhaust begins to open the valve adjust the intake rocker to 22ft lbs. you do this for each cylinder. you can hand tighten each down at first so they work. then do the procedure.

Watch for the intake pushrod to start going down (you may need to help it without the spring pushing) and once it is fully closed the TDC is about 1/3 further. I would use a straw or something non-metallic to find TDC.
