Default How much for a cam install

I tried searching but couldnt really find anything. My question (S)
1. how much roughly would you pay for a cam install
2. what would i need to do one or what else should i buy. My car is a full bolt on A4, yank ss4k stall, 3.73 , Slicks, Suspension, still on ten bolt but I want to do a small to medium cam, nothing huge but Something to make more power.
3. I had a few cams in mind but what would be some suggestions.

In the little that ive done looking at them, for a typical cam swap 800-1200. Its easy to see the 250 or 300 cam and then the 80 or 100 pushrods, ect and see that it is not too bad but if your getting a dyno tune, figureing hours for the install and all the extra the $300 camshaft is really only a small portion. However, if you were to find a used set where the cam, pushrods, rockers ect are all together for say 500, and you get a frost mail order tune and whatnot you could prob do one for 600-800. The tools you need are really only a good craftsman tool set i dont think you would need much else. And a suggestion of a cam, for me i would have prob done the ms3 or 4. Sorry i wasnt extreemly detailed, maybe someone else will be, but thats my .02 for ya.

Go to Texasspeed.com. They have cam packages for like $699. It's ur choice of cam along with dual beehive springs and pushrods. Most people upgrade to a ported oil pump, titanium retainers and a double roller timing chain also. Others also upgrade their rockers too. I would think you could get it done for $1200.

I know when I had my cam installed I had cam, springs, pushrods, oil pump, timing chain and UDP installed and I furnished all the gaskets and things needed to complete the job. I paid 1400 total for install and tune at a reputable performance shop. There was a few issues that popped up during tune that were addressed so that drove the cost up some.

Factor $1000 for all parts on a cam install done correctly.

Factor 250-400 for a cam install in pure labor costs depending on 1) who you know and 2) where you live

Factor another $300-600 for Dyno tune.

I've been pricing around cam installs myself and found them to run around $900 for labor only - including the tuning following the install.

I never realized how expensive a cam install was. I'm guessing this is why most people save up their cash and do heads/cam/tuning all right around the same time.

I'm starting to think my 2 F-Bodies are going to cost me more than initially planned.

Parts and tuning alone is generally over 1k. Not including labor. i would PM sponsors like Slowhawk or Fran @ RPM for a general idea.

In general start checking sponsor links for ideas.
