Question Best places for a young, single guy to live in TX?

Guys,

I have lived a little outside of Chicago for 25 years now (I'm currently 30) and am thinking hard about moving to Texas at the beginning of next summer. The idea of moving to a more laid-back, southern state just really appeals to me now. I'm a high school teacher here, so I have to complete our school year first (ends in early June). The city of Chicago is fun, but I'm horribly tired of the brutal winters and wouldn't mind a big change in my life and meeting some different kind of people.

I actually lived in both Beaumont and College Station when I was a young child, but don't really remember much about it.

Anyway, what cities or areas would you recommend looking into as a good place to live? I want more of a larger metropolitan area where there is a lot to do and a lot of people to meet. I'm NOT a rural, small-town type of guy if that helps.

My aunt & uncle currently live in Frisco (they say it's nice) and I've heard good things about Austin...

Let me know what you think!

Mike

Houston, Dallas, Austin, or San Antonio.... you pick.

I came to Austin because I had "family" here that was going to help me out for a while till I got back up on my feet from college debt. Turned out they became uber douchebags about me and my car being "too loud", and were starting to harass my disabled mother, so we left and got an apartment.

North Austin, or the Round Rock area here is really nice. Not as much traffic as there would be down south or downtown area. LOTS of good paying jobs here. That's the main reason I came. I got a very good paying job within a week of searching.

Oh and btw, Austin drivers are the WORST.

Austin has been named several times as the best place in the country for young people to move to and start a new life...

I'd personally never live in SA, or anywhere near the border of Mexico.

I'm a metroplex fan, myself. Las colinas (think Irving) is close to everything, affordable, etc.

Austin is too cramped for my liking. Traffic is horrible with my road rage.
