I had a ARP wheel stud break on my V6 car on Nitrous. Also sheard off a ARP Flywheel bolt head on my V6 on N20. So for me I am not so sold on the ARP whole thing. Even though My whole motor for my V6 had ARP everything. Probably spent around 500-600 in bolts and studs alone.

I hear people say this crap everytime I see a Ebay thread. You get what you pay for, Its going to break... I have my ebay 3200 TQ converter in my Firehawk with a little over 2000 miles on it and I love it. Woke the car up big time. Cost 270.00 shipped.

Are these head studs off ebay better then stock Head bolts?

i used ebay turbo kit, ebay head studs, ebay regrind cam, ebay fuel pump, ebay braided fuel line. My buddie built a pace truck with 6.0 turbo right along side my LS mustang swap. Used all same stuff I did. Another buddie built his mustang with all ebay stuff 3 years ago and has not had one problem. No turbo seals leaking, I mean not one problem. We basically built these cars from ebay to see what we could do with them. Cya at LS fest. Look for the ebay inside stickers on the back windows.

I thought I would try some Ebay ls1 head studs from abad71camaro on ebay. Well at 65 ft lbs it snapped, leaving only the threaded nub in the bottom of the block.
I contacted the seller, he offered to send another stud, to which I said I would like to get a refund because if it happened again it may be impossible to retrieve the broken stud. The reply was that the torque spec was 140 in lb and that I was a genius for torquing them to 65 ft lbs. I tried to speak with them on the phone, but they were the rudest people I have ever spoken with. NEVER BUY THEM OR BUY FROM aBAD71 CAMARO

Not even 12 lb/ft . Divide 140 by 12 . Is that how much you torqued the stud or the nut on the stud . What kind of lube did you use ? I've seen ARP fasteners break but usually the block threads have garbage in them .

I have only been burned a couple of times trying the cheap stuff, but the cheap stuff seems to be getting junkier and junkier by the minute. Try a cheap air filter, blow off valve, shorty header, intercooler, etc. I would shy away from parts like important fasteners ( rod, main, head and flywheel bolts) wastegates, and other internal parts. I will certainly chalk this one up to a learning experience, one that could have been way more expensive had I not been able to retrieve the broken stud. That and the sheer ignorance and total rudeness of the seller abad71camaro really puts it into perspective.

IMO the cheap stuff is worth a try if a failure wouldn't result in catastrophic damage OR result in a very lengthy replacement time. I would say head studs fall into both of those categories. Cheap headers don't fit right? Oh well, sell them for half of what you paid and move on. Cheap BOV fail? Oh darn my turbo might see 10% additional stress and lag time until it's replaced.
But cheap head stud snapped off in block? That definitely merits an "oh ****" moment. It's been proven time and time again that the Chinese made ebay gear really isn't all that bad. Yeah a lot of it has higher failure rates than the brand name stuff but it's usually worth trying and saving on. If a head stud breaks off you're looking at quite a few hours to replace them and buying new head gaskets at a MINIMUM.

He broke it at 65lb/ft during the torque down process which points to defect. All mfrs have them, they offered to replace the broken stud and make it good so their PR is pretty good

I still dont see the downside to these

i have ebay head studs on my car i love em for the price!!!! shows very small signs of rust on a car that sits outside all the time and is a week to week track car. for the price its the best thing to buy if your gonna take the heads off alot. it pays for itself in 1 head swap GM bolts i believe r 60$ for the set so its your call i have no problems with my studs

Yeah, I have a TON of stuff from ebay on various vehicles, and I'm a believer on if it's isn't going to kill the engine and doesn't look like total garbage quality it's worth a shot. I have a set of rotors front and rear on my car with some thermo quiet that still look good over a year later, an intercooler setup for my Eclipse, exhaust for my 240sx, etc. I still haven't found this one "eBay" brand that is pure garbage that a lot of the haters have ran into. Most of the time if you do a little research and price check and can wait a little while you can find good deals. These head studs, I'm not sure about depends on what the manufacturer/seller can tell you on them. If they seem shady and don't know ish then don't buy.

Anyways WAY too windy there on my end. Hope your build works out.

My dad bought a set of these studs.. But I have no feedback on them as he hasn't used them yet. I'm curious too. Can't someone just do a strength test on these babies??

I don't get it. Half the people on here are using them in stock like or non boosted applications. Just get a set of ARP head bolts and don't skimp out. What damage can result? Well it won't cost $240 to fix.

Im the guy slow00gt was talking bout with the turbo pace truck an other turbo ls builds, We use the cheap ebay head studs on all our builds, Never had a problem yet, We boost to 16psi on one of the builds, But like hhe said we see yall at ls fest look for the ebay inside stickers

I'm just trying to get the best bang for my buck. I'm building a turbo 5.3 on a "budget" and trying to spend money where necessary.

Who uses ARP head bolts?

Better yet, giving these three options, which would you choose?

1) Stock TTY
2) Ebay studs
3) ARP head BOLTS

at least arp bolts, but if you could swing it arp studs. i had to install a cheap set of ebay long tubes in my buddies car and i would have of almost have paid the difference for him to have bought the ones made by hooker. but its simple what ideas have you bough off ebay that were good and cheap?

as for me i would rather spend a little more and not have to pull the heads off again because of the studs not being strong enough or worse what if a stud breaks in the block?
