Well if its truely a "complete" 5.3 then it shouldnt be a big deal. im sure somebody makes mounts for those and there would be a bit of wiring to do. I think the fuel pump would need to be changed too. not sure if that stock pump will do or not. I would do the swap over your other options if your up to it. Will not be plug and play if thats what your looking for.

5.3 in a 97 is almost a bolt in swap. advance adapters 1" set back mount adapters and a 6.0l flywheel w/ spacer plate makes it drop right in. exhaust manifolds drop into the frame like they were ment to be there. Fuel pump puts out enough pressure and flow for the new motor. fan even fits into the stock shroud. Use 01-06 silveado upper rad hose and your lower can be made to work. silverado throttle cable as well. only mod is the wiring harness. Use a 2000 camaro ECT sensor and connector so you can hook up your temp gauge. My total cost of a 02 5.3 into my K3500 was $1754 but I did all the work myself. That was motor swap, new fuel lines, and sendng unit, adapters, exhaust mods, hp tuners credits etc.

I have Lextech brackets for the 6.0L I was going to put into my 1997 Express. Mounts the stock 5.7 Vortec compressor in the stock location.

I would not even consider using a stock 5.3 in place of the Vortec 5.7. It will feel gutless until you get to the top-end of the powerband. A tuned stock 6.0L doesn't pull ahead torque wise until the 4,000+ rpm range either.

I decided to just build the 350 up instead. I have a 6" rod 383 ready to go into it in place of the 350 with the 24x coil per cylinder and the Marine intake on top. I am not after top-end power. I could care less how well the thing pulls beyond 5,500 rpm so long as it makes big torque numbers in the 1,500-5,000 rpm range I run when towing my 6,000 lbs Jayco travel trailer.

Personally if i had a GMT400 4x4 truck and was considering any kind of a swap. It would be an 8.1 from a GMT400 3500HD or Express/Savanna van.
