i am very interested in putting a set of oe 17x9.5 c6 z06 rims on my 85 camaro. what will i need to do to make them fit if anything. i assume i would need to run a spacer front and back... what size? where do i get them? i dont want these wheels to stick out funny does anybody have oe wheels on their 3rd gen? also what size tire fits that size rim the best. i found a great deal on some 255/40/17... would that fit alright. thanks for all the help yall

I looked into that myself when I had a third gen.

You will need quite sizable spacers in front and back, which cost quite a bit.

If I remember correctly, they are 2.5" spacers. I would also be weary of using spacers that large.

Where to get them? Try eBay.

And yes, 255's will fit just fine on a 9.5 in rim

You need around 2.5 inch adapters. I have 2 inch ones on the front of my 89 I think. They need to sit out a tad more, which all I have is skinnies too.

what are any cons to running spacers this large. is it dangerous? this is just a 2.8 v6 car for now so no big hp numbers

A wheel spacer moves the car's weight out further than intended and places extra weight on the studs and can cause them to fail.

Spacers could also crack and cause problems.

when i get some new rims and tires for the Trans am i was thinking about putting the OE 17" trans am rims and tires on my 87 IROC..ofcourse i would change out the center cap though.


will they fit? anyone got pictures?

When you use spacers that large, they have their own studs. I've ran one inch spacers and I think it's safe. I just don't trust slip on spacers.

thought about it with my 90 firebird but was looking at 5 spokes saw some at a car show and they looked goofy with the big spacers disk brakes sit way away from the wheels just didn't look right I personally liked the dished in wheels better on those cars anyway.

thanks to all that helped i did some searching on a 3rd gen forum and came to the concludion that most use 2 in but according to backspacing and offset chart i need 2.25 worth of spacer. i want to put my 98 z28 rear end on the 85 but that will have to wait till that car can get a 12 bolt lol

Hubcentric spacer's are the way to go, safe even in comp racing (drag, autocross, etc.). There is a calculator on Skults website to help you figure what size you need. http://www.skulte.com/adapterfaq.html

I'm running 1.25 in spacers, but my wheels are offset for C4 vettes.
I have 18 x 9.5's all around. I'm actually getting rid of my C6Zo6's and getting the DD c5's very soon.

i suppose spacers are the cheaper way out but you are stil stuck with the stock 3rd gen brakes...am looking at going back to the 3rd gen again * i have owned 4 * and doing the LS Brakes up front and going 4th gen rear out back and running the C5 ZO6's...then a **** ton of other stuff...before the lsx/6spd swap..

Blck Form., I agree, the 3rd gen brakes def. need some updating. The CTSV brembo brakes are real nice. hopefully I can pick some up this summer.

This is incorrect,,, in this situation all the spacers are doing is filling the back space that the newer rims dont have.....
the 3rd gen hub still centers in the middle of the tire just like a 3rd gen wheel.
another hole in your story is a car only weighs so much that cant increase by messing with the stance.
The spacers dont add any extra stress on the studs if you do your math right and use the right spacers.
because the idea is to always put spacers on to keep the track of the tires running in the same position as stock,, which a 2" will do.

as for your last statement,,, ive never seen that happen,, there made from solid alum no different then your wheels.
