Default Using WAY too much oil PCV issues

I know this has been covered time and time again. I have read and read about what can be done. But, my car is using oil way too quick, I'm using up to 1.5 quarts of oil between oil changes. I keep it filled up, so it may be more than that. But anyways, I'm really starting to get aggravated over the whole deal. The car didn't use to use hardly any oil until I done my cam swap. Yes, I have checked, and changed the valve seals. I'm 99% that isn't the issue. Rings are fine, doesn't smoke any at start up, or WOT that i've seen. I have re-routed the PCV system, the back passenger side valve cover is now plugged. My current setup is driver side rear valve cover to factory PCV valve, then to air compressor air/moisture separator, and then to intake. The fresh air to throttle body remains the same. Just to elaborate how bad this PCV is sucking oil, I dumped out the catch can today, and went for a drive this evening about 60 miles to 100 miles; WOT at times. Then cam back to find the catch can 1/4 full. I'm debating on deleting the whole system at this point? Thanks please give me some ideas, because Google only goes so far. On a side note I'm also using a high pressure oil pump if that would make a difference.

1.5 qts between oil changes honestly isnt that bad considering you have a cammed ls1 and it sounds like you drive it pretty aggressively.thats about what mine burns.

True. But dang it's annoying, have you had any luck with doing anything different with the stock PCV setup?

i switched to the newer LS6 valley cover, that seemed to help a little bit.

I was debating on doing that in the near future. I'm sure someone has came up with a solution to the LS1 valley design. I can't seem to find anything though. Anyone have issues just deleting the system and running a breather? Like this guy? http://www.ls1.com/forums/f48/pcv-ca...ressure-81389/

Probably the most comprehensive PCV thread on there: https://ls1tech.com/forums/generatio...outing-ok.html

Sounds about normal. My cammed ls burns a quart. Those airfilters are tiny and nothing sounds out of the ordinary with what your saying. There is probably tons of oil in your intake. I Had a catch can that caught oil but it wasn't catching all of it.

I just bought a valve cover filter that opens at wot and it made a massive difference.

Sarge knows his stuff. I am going with AN fittings off the valve cover routed to a vented catch can. And plug up the throttle body and all that jazz.

What kind of valve cover filter are you using?

I still have a stock pcv setup and thought for a long time that it was the issue. but I broke down and changed my valve seals and it uses very little if any now. I know you said you changed them but you could have oil getting past the guide itself. Just a thought. Plus the LS1's were known for "ring flutter" at high rpm which will cause oil consumption. Not much to be done about that except a rebuild with a better ring pack.

I put a 2004 LS6 PCV/Valley Cover on my 99 FRC with a Mike Norris catch can. It helped sooooo much. The factory LS1 PCV sucks.

I think I've about came to the conclusion, due to the fact of the crankcase pressure which must be obtained with the PCV system; I'm not going to delete it. But instead go with LS6 valley cover and a good name brand catch can. Now on to my next issue though. Trying to track down the reason that my car only misses and studders when it is raining out side. Yet, clears up when I lay the fuel to it. Maybe a bad O2 sensor? Eh, it's really embarrassing when it does it. Especially when you are on a date with a chick, and the dang think won't hardly run worth a dang... Any advice on that issue would be great.

What you can do is use the drivers side for the fresh air source, so hook up a length of 3/8" oil/fuel line hose from the TB fresh air outlet tube to the rear PCV line going to the drivers side valve cover. Then use the passenger side valve cover front port(normal fresh air inlet) for your outlet that goes back into the intake manifold. This will cut down on the oil being pulled through at least under WOT. IMO, it's worth a try since all you'll need is a length of 3/8" hose.

99bluz28, can you elaborate for me on that type of setup? Because that is where I believe my engine starts to consume the most oil, under WOT conditions.

Quoted for truth. Just get the 04+ valley cover and a Norris can.

On my HCI Camaro that's what I ran and after 3k HARD miles, I only ever had around 1/4 cup MAX in the can. Intake was still dry as well.

Look at it like this... You need to pull the intake to clean all the oil anyway. Might as well turn an extra 10 bolts and replace the cover while you're there.

Problem solved.

All you're doing is moving the fresh air inlet from the front of the passenger side valve cover to the vacuum port on the rear of the drivers side valve cover, and the you'll be using the passenger side valve cover front port as your new vacuum port and have it run into your CC or PCV valve, then back into the intake manifold.

IMO, it's really very simple, and cost very little.

All the way on the right hand side. Screws into the filler neck as well.
